City Council to Give Golf Cart Permit Program Second Reading

Golf carts in downtown Amarillo may become a reality following the Amarillo City Council’s meeting on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Amarillo City Council will vote on a second and final reading of an ordinance establishing a permit program for the use of golf carts downtown. The golf carts will be used to transport patrons from different facilities located in the downtown area. The program, if approved, would require $1 million in liability insurance per cart, prohibits driving along Buchanan, Pierce, Fillmore, and Taylor Streets, and establishes a fee of $20 per cart.

The ordinance passed its first reading last week in a 5-0 vote.

Councilmembers will meet on Tuesday, April 9th in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (601 South Buchanan). The meeting will begin at 1PM, following a noon public comment session.
