City Considering Purchase of Mortuary Building

The Amarillo City Council will consider voting this week to approve the purchase of a downtown mortuary building.

According to an agenda from Amarillo.gov, on Tuesday, the City Council will consider approving an ordinance allowing the city manager to execute “a contract, leaseback, and other necessary documents” to purchase the A&D Mortuary building at 808 South Johnson Street. The purchase cost is $360,000, with a leaseback of $7,800 per year with option to renew.

A memo to the City Council attached to the agenda says the City is considering purchasing the property after being approached by the owners of the property, who are currently looking to relocate their operations to a single building.

Also, during the meeting, the City Council will consider voting to approve a resolution allowing the issue of Amarillo EDC sales tax revenue bonds.

The meeting will begin at 1PM in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall.
