Tax reform, school finance reform, and a state budget were mentioned as top legislative priorities by Texas’ top three officials - Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and House Speaker Dennis Bonnen - earlier this year. It looks like those three initiatives may now become a reality.
In a press conference on Thursday, Abbott, Patrick, and Bonnen announced legislative deals had been reached on school finance, the state’s budget, and tax reform. Those changes are expected to come through House Bill 3, Senate Bill 2, and House Bill 1, respectively.
“We would not be here today, making the announcement we are about to make, without the tireless efforts of the members of the Texas House and Senate,” Abbott said during the press conference.
All three bills will still have to gain the approval of both houses to eventually land on the governor’s desk, but officials say they expect that to happen.
