TxDOT Bringing Interactive Game to Hodgetown

In an effort to reduce crashes and save lives on Texas roadways, the Texas Department of Transportation continues the “Plan While You Can” impaired driving campaign. The campaign urges drivers to plan ahead for a sober ride through its “Plan to Win” virtual reality game, which quizzes and educates participants on the dangers and consequences of drinking alcohol and driving. The interactive game is visiting six Texas cities throughout the summer, including Amarillo.

In 2018, there were 203 alcohol-related crashes in Amarillo. Those crashes led to seven fatalities and 26 serious injuries.

The “Plan While You Can” campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choices while behind the wheel. Since November 8, 2000, at least one person has died on Texas roadways every single day. #EndTheStreakTX asks all Texans to commit to driving safely to help end the streak of daily deaths on our roadways.

The public is encouraged to play the interactive game during the Sod Poodles’ games this Thursday and Friday, June 13 and 14. For media inquiries, contact Sonja Gross, TxDOT Amarillo public information officer at (806) 356-3256 or sonja.gross@txdot.gov.
