Counterfeit Money Used at Local Garage Sales, Police Say

Amarillo Police are encouraging those having garage sales this summer to be cautious as counterfeit bills were recently passed off at a local sale.

According to APD, over the weekend, counterfeit $20 bills were used to purchase items at a local garage sale. The suspects are described as a white female, 30-40 years of age, and a Hispanic male in his mid 40’s. The suspect vehicle was described as being a older model white Dodge truck.

Officers say if you are planning on having a garage sale this summer, then you should study what to look for with the dollar bills. For information on counterfeit and real bills, you are asked to visit www.uscurrency.gov.
