Heavy Rains Flood Amarillo Streets Over Weekend

Saturday brought the rain to town, as Amarillo was pounded with some heavy thundershowers.

Late Saturday afternoon and into the evening hours, heavy rains began in Amarillo, flooding several streets, and leaving some drivers stuck in the rain. Photos posted to the Top of Texas Storm Chasers Facebook site showed flooding at Interstate 40 and Coulter, leaving some vehicles stuck in the middle of the street.

The rains also led to the cancellation of some local events, such as the planned performance by the Eli Young Band at the Starlight Ranch in Amarillo. The weather conditions were described as “catastrophic,” leading to the event’s cancellation.

Local drivers were also asked to stay off the roads during the heavy storm, as first responders responded to several incidents related to the weather.

Rainfall is expected several days this week, according to early forecasts in Amarillo. Stay tuned to our social media pages for any weather updates.
