Rumors Say Davis to Challenge Republican Congressman Roy

Word is circulating that former gubernatorial contender Wendy Davis is reportedly looking at challenging a freshman Republican congressman in south Texas.

This week, it was reported that Davis, a Democrat, had decided to jump in the race for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 21st District of Texas. The seat, which is held by incumbent Chip Roy, has attracted the attention of national Democrats, after Roy beat Democrat Joseph Kosper by two points in 2018. Libertarian Lee Santos also appeared on the ballot in that contest, pulling in about 2 percent of the vote.

However, shortly after the headlines appeared about Davis’ congressional bid, it was reported by Lauren McGaughy of the Dallas Morning News via Twitter that a third party had said Davis intended to run for the seat, without an announcement coming from Davis herself. Davis also said she is considering a possible run for Roy’s seat, but has not made any decisions.

Nonetheless, the story gained the attention of the political world and Republican officials, including the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee. Spokesperson Bob Saldera said in a written statement, “There may be no worse congressional candidate in the country than socialist abortion fanatic Wendy Davis, and her accidental announcement is just another laugh inducing moment for her joke of a campaign.”

Filing for the congressional races will begin in November.
