Both Texans running for president in 2020 reported their second-quarter fundraising hauls this week, with Beto O’Rourke and Julian Castro still in the back of the Democratic pack.
According to reports, O’Rourke announced his campaign raised $3.6 million during the second quarter, far down from the $9.4 his campaign raised during the first quarter of the year. The number puts O’Rourke well behind fundraising leaders like Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, and Bernie Sanders in the race.
Former U.S. Housing Secretary Julian Castro also showed up an uptick in contributions, but he too trails the front-runners. Castro raised $2.8 million in the second quarter, up from the $1.1 million his campaign raised during the first quarter. The second quarter was also unique for Castro, as he led the entire Democratic field in small dollar donations, CNN reports.
