The two Texas Democrats running for the White House in 2020 will be on different debate stages later this month.
On July 30th and 31st, CNN will host Democratic presidential debates in Detroit, Michigan. In a random drawing on Thursday night, CNN assigned the two Texans, Rep. Beto O’Rourke and Secretary Julian Castro, to separate debate nights. O’Rourke will debate on the first night (June 30th), taking center stage with Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Meanwhile, Castro will debate on July 31st, joining Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris, businessman Andrew Yang, Sen. Cory Booker, and others on the stage.
Both candidates previously appeared in the debates late last month, taking the stage on the same evening. In that debate, an exchange over immigration between O’Rourke and Castro drew national attention from Democratic voters.
