President Donald J. Trump has selected Texas Republican John Ratcliffe as his pick to be the next Director of National Intelligence.
This week, Trump named Ratcliffe as his pick for the job to replace Dan Coats. Ratcliffe currently serves U.S. House District 4 in Texas, having served in the role since 2015. Prior to his work in the House, Ratcliffe was mayor of Heath, Texas, and was the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas under President George W. Bush.
In a statement made on Twitter, Ratcliffe expressed his gratitude for the nomination, and thanking President Trump.
“I am deeply grateful to President Trump for the opportunity to lead our Nation’s intelligence community and work on behalf of all the public servants who are tirelessly devoted to defending the security and safety of the United States,” Ratcliffe said.
The Republican’s nomination will now face confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
