U.S. Senator John Cornyn has gained another Democratic primary challenger ahead of the 2020 election.
On Monday, Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez announced her candidacy for Cornyn’s U.S. Senate seat, becoming the eighth Democrat to join the race. Prior to launching her bid for the U.S. Senate, Tzintzún Ramirez has gained national attention as co-founder of the Workers Defense Fund and founder of Jolt Texas.
Along with Tzintzún Ramirez, State Sen. Royce West, former congressional hopeful MJ Hegar, former Houston City Councilman Chris Bell, Houston Councilwoman Amanda Edwards, former lieutenant governor candidate Michael Cooper, activist Sema Hernandez, and former gubernatorial candidate Adrian Ocegueda are seeking the Democratic Party’s Senate nomination. Independent Dwayne Stovall is also running in the November 2020 election.
Candidates interested in running for the U.S. Senate can begin filing in November and will be required to file all necessary paperwork in mid-December.
