In a clash of Texas baseball teams, the Houston Astros stumped the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night to reach 100 season wins and to clinch their spot in the 2019 postseason.
In the game at Minute Maid Park in Houston, the Astros earned several feathers in their cap in the 3-2 victory over Texas. Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole notched his 300th season strikeout and Yuli Gurriel put his 30th season home run on the board. But more importantly, the team clinched the playoff berth for the American League West, with their closest rival in the division, the Oakland Athletics, trailing by eight games. However, in good news for Oakland fans, the team is expected to clinch a spot on the American League wild card game.
The Astros will now host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at home to kick off the race to the end of the season. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers will look to claim a victory over Oakland in an away game on Friday night.
