Pedestrian Dies Following I-40 Accident

A Florida man has died after being struck by a semi in Amarillo on Monday.

According to information released by the Amarillo Police Department, on September 2nd at approximately 9:23AM, officers were dispatched to the 8000 block of I-40 West on the report of a semi striking a pedestrian. Courtney Pompey, a 28 year old Ocala, Florida man, had been crossing I-40 northbound when he was struck by a 2019 Kenworth pulling a loaded flatbed trailer. The Kenworth was headed westbound, driven by a 50-year-old El Paso man. Pompey reportedly walked in front of the Kenworth, leading to the collision.

Pompey was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and later died. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

This accident remains under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.
