I-40 Accident Sends One to Hospital

A Saturday afternoon accident on Interstate 40 this weekend sent one person to a local hospital.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, on Saturday, June 22nd, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of I-40 West on the report of a motorcycle crash. A 2007 Suzuki 1300 had been northbound on I-27 and entering I-40 westbound. As the driver of the Suzuki was entering onto I-40, he lost control of his bike, crossed into the next lane, and struck the rear bumper of a large box trailer being pulled by a semi-tractor.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 34-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Speed is believed to be a possible factor in this crash. The only description of the tractor trailer rig is that it possibly had gray rear doors. Officers believe it is possible the driver of the tractor trailer did not know that they were involved in this collision.

This incident is being investigated by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.
