Special House Elections Draw Candidates in South Texas

A group of candidates have filed to run in special elections for three vacant Texas House seats.

This week, candidates filed for spots on the ballot for planned special elections in Texas Districts 28, 100, and 148. In the race for House District 100, five Democrats filed for the ballot, while the other seats will be contested by individuals from a number of parties. Most eyes are on the race for District 28, where Rep. John Zerwas, a Republican, narrowly won re-election in 2018. The Texas Tribune reports one Democrat and six Republicans are vying for the seat. 12 Democrats, 2 Republicans, and 1 independent will contest the race in District 148, where Rep. Jessica Farrar, a Democrat, is leaving her seat.

Early voting for all of the races will begin in October.
