Amarillo City Councilmembers continue to move forward ahead of a proposed bond election for May.
According to an agenda from the City of Amarillo, the Amarillo City Council will consider voting Tuesday to lease voting equipment from Hart Intercivic, Inc. The contract for $179,591.50 has been approved by the Texas Secretary of State, according to the City, and provides for termination in the event that the City Council chooses not to call a bond election. The move comes as the City Council inked an agreement with Potter County in 2019 to conduct the election.
The proposed bond issue is for $279 million to fund renovations to the Amarillo Civic Center Complex. Voters shot down a Civic Center renovation bond in 2016, but the new bond proposed by the current City administration includes several other projects such as creation of a central park downtown, renovation of the Santa Fe Depot, and relocation of Amarillo City Hall.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 7th in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (601 South Buchanan). The meeting will begin at 1PM.
