The bond election for the Amarillo Civic Center Complex has been pushed back to November, due to the COVID-19 outbreak
On Tuesday, Council members voted 5-0 to move the election to November from its original May 2020 date. The move was made after City officials said it became clear that the May date would not be feasible for the election as the Amarillo area, like the rest of the country, grapples with the coronavirus outbreak.
Based on comments from officials, unless the election is canceled and ordered at a different date, the items included in the bond and the amount for the bond will stay the same on the November ballot. Included in the spending package, which will be partially funded by the bond, if approved, are renovations to the Amarillo Civic Center Complex, construction of a new indoor arena, renovation of the Santa Fe Depot, creation of a downtown park, and relocation of Amarillo City Hall. The total cost of the spending package is $319 million.
