We have asked candidates running for various offices to answer questions for our Voter Guide. While full responses are available here, we are offering you an excerpt in “Candidate Comparisons” ahead of the November 3, 2020 general election. Each response below came directly from the candidate’s questionnaire and is unedited.
Jeff Boyd, Republican (Incumbent)
Occupation: Texas Supreme Court Justice, Place 7
Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?
My consistently demonstrated and broadly recognized commitment to fairly applying the law without regard to personal, policy, or political preferences sets me apart from my opponents. (See www.justicejeffboyd.org/supporters/)
Staci Williams, Democrat
Occupation: Presiding Judge, 101st District Court
Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?
The diversity of experience I bring to the Court. Before taking the bench, I had over 11 years of judicial/arbitral experience. I was an arbitrator for DART, U.S. Postal Service, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, NASD (now FINRA), and the Washington Metropolitan Airport Board. I was an administrative judge and a municipal court judge. I have been trained by the Texas Center for the Judiciary and the National Judicial College. I have attended many continuing legal education programs on the various issues arising in my court. Most importantly, I have worked on litigation for clients and large and small. I know the problems inherent in litigation and how they can affect a plaintiff and a defendant. My history and experience give me an insight into the judicial system that my opponent does not have.
William Bryan Strange III, Libertarian
