Changes in business capacity related to COVID-19 hospitalizations may be coming to Amarillo this weekend.

According to the City of Amarillo, should COVID-19 hospitalizations exceed 15% on Saturday, October 24, then businesses in Amarillo will be required to reduce operating capacity to 50%. This change would go into effect on Sunday, October 24.

The change may come as Amarillo has experienced a hospitalization rate exceeding 15% for nearly a week. Saturday would mark the seventh consecutive day of such a hospitalization rate, triggering the changes under an order enacted by Gov. Greg Abbott.

As of Friday, the COVID-19 hospitalization rate in Amarillo stands at 17.29%.
