Brown: Reflecting on Thanksgivings Past

By Hobert “Gunny” Brown Jr.

I can’t help but reflect of Thanksgivings past. As a young man it was always a treat to go to my grandparents’ house even though it was only two miles away from house, and I saw them almost every day as well. The food was wonderful, but that was a very small part of my memory.

That day was a day where I got to see Hobert Sr., and Roberta Brown, enjoy the fruit of their labor. My grandparents raised eight children, with my father being the oldest. This day wasn’t about drinking beer, watching football or arguing with other. It was a day about strengthening those family values, and an exercise in educating a generation at a time that you have responsibilities, as a man or woman in this country. That you have a duty that not a part-time job but a full time, that consist of four principles.

  1. Faith- All things are possible through Jesus Christ, and only He can open the gate to the Heavenly Father.

  2. Family- For a family to grow they first must have values. Sacrifices must be made, as well as adults must be adults and kids must be kids.

  3. Flag – America isn’t perfect, but it better than any other choices you might have. America owes you nothing, you owe America. Many individuals of all races have fought and died for the rights you have today, and you have a duty to honor their sacrifice.

  4. Friends- Stand with those who stand with you.

I dedicate this Thanksgiving to the wonderful grandparents, present, past, and future.
