Sanders: I Believe in a Better Lubbock

By Stephen Sanders

Throughout the campaign, one thing that stood out to me was the resilience of the Lubbock community. Lubbock stood beside me as we turned the lights on issues that can not exist in our local politics. For that, I am very grateful and super thankful.

Many people have said that our city is discriminatory, and I stand to say that's not true. I felt an extreme amount of love regardless of being an African American and look forward to the days of building a Lubbock we can be proud of even more.

While I did not win the race, I count it as a win in terms of igniting unity through truth and honesty. I believe that our citizens will now know what traits to look for in their leaders and those who help govern our city.

As far as running again, there is nothing that is not on the table. I am a young trailblazer who loves his city and will continue to stand up for what is right no matter what.

In closing, I'm not a politician like Dan Pope, but an advocate for change. I believe in a better Lubbock, and a better Texas, and most importantly, a better America. Ultimately I pray I have inspired someone reading this, and you will step out on faith and take a chance for something you believe in. The world is significant, and it will take more candidates who genuinely love all people to make our world a better place.
