Place 4 Amarillo City Councilman Howard Smith will make an announcement about his 2021 campaign on Thursday.

According to an announcement by the incumbent representative’s campaign, Smith will make an announcement about “his vision for 2021” on Thursday. The announcement will be the first public announcement of any kind from any of the incumbent members of the Amarillo City Council ahead of the May 2021 election.

Smith was first elected to the Amarillo City Council in May 2017, defeating then-incumbent Mark Nair. Smith went on to claim re-election in 2019 against Steven R. Rosas, Jr., albeit with the challenger receiving a larger vote share than some other challengers.

Voters will decide the race for Amarillo City Council Place 4 and all other seats on the Amarillo City Council in May 2021.
