Howard Smith is seeking another term on the Amarillo City Council.

On Thursday, Smith announced his re-election bid for the Place 4 seat on the Amarillo City Council with a social media video. The video featured comments by Smith and his campaign treasurer, former Amarillo College President Paul Matney.

The roughly 10-minute video marked the first announcement of any kind from incumbent members of the Amarillo City Council regarding plans for the 2021 municipal elections.

At this point, Smith has not yet drawn any challengers. He most recently won re-election in 2019, with his victory over activist Steven R. Rosas, Jr.

Filing for seats on the City Council begins on January 13, 2021. Election Day is May 1, 2021.
