Four Candidates Pull in Big Bucks in District 13 House Race

In the Republican primary to replace U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon), four candidates reported receipts of over $50,000 during the most recent period, but the biggest hauls belonged to three contenders.

Leading the pack in the recent Federal Election Commission filings is Chris Ekstrom, a Wichita Falls businessman, who reported $461,243 in receipts. Following Ekstrom is lobbyist and Texas Cattle Feeders Association industry affairs director Josh Winegarner who reported $158,099.39 in receipts. Rounding out the top three is former Physician to the President Ronny Jackson, who reported $153,450 in receipts, just shy of taking second place in the fundraising field.

Wichita County Commissioner Lee Harvey was the final candidate to report more than $50,000 in receipts, with $62,510 reported. Other Republican hopefuls who filed with the FEC included Amarillo City Councilwoman Elaine Hays with $29,584.53 in receipts, attorney Diane Knowlton with $12,291.07, railroad conductor Vance Snider with $9,814.40, and educator Jason Foglesong with $206.20.

As far as cash on hand is concerned, Ekstrom also leads the field with about $227,000 on hand, followed by Winegarner at $141,080, Jackson at $110,796, and Hays at $22,419. No other candidate reported more than $10,000 on hand.

Voters will decide this primary on March 3.
