Amarillo College Mass Media Students Win Award

Amarillo College mass media students laid claim to a prestigious gold award in the only category they entered at the Amarillo chapter of the American Advertising Federation’s 2020 Advertising Awards banquet on Feb. 20.

The annual awards, known as the “ADDYs,” recognize excellence in local student and professional advertising.

AC received a first-place Gold Addy in the College Magazine category for the spring 2019 “Current” – AC’s student-produced magazine.

Mackenzie Farmer, who has since transferred to Texas Tech University, served as editor of the winning magazine.

Farmer’s staff included assistant editors Lauren Ebben (current editor of AC’s student newspaper the Ranger) and Blass Guerrero (who graduated from AC and now attends West Texas A&M University). Design editor Salvador Gutierrez also has since graduated from AC.

In the spring 2019 “Current”, Farmer wrote in her Letter from the Editor: “Hopefully, in this magazine, you will see my love for the art of minimalism and simplicity … we hope that you feel inspired to use your talents to do something great and not to overwhelm yourself with all that life can throw at you.”

Jill Gibson, chair of media, arts and communication, and Maddisun Fowler, student media coordinator, advise AC Student Media.

“As always, we are very proud of our students and their work and grateful they have this opportunity to interact with the local professional advertising community and their peers from WT,” Gibson said.
