Dr. Ronny Jackson is your Republican nominee for Congress in Texas’ 13th Congressional District.
On Tuesday night, Jackson, a former White House physician and retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, beat former Texas Cattle Feeders Association lobbyist Josh Winegarner to clinch his spot in the general election, 56-44 percent. The result marked a stark shift in the favor of voters from the first round of voting when Winegarner led the March 3 primary with 39 percent of the vote out of 15 candidates running.
Jackson’s numbers were boosted by major wins in Potter, Randall, and Wichita Counties. All three counties went for Winegarner in the first round of voting but broke for Jackson in the runoff.
After the race was called, Jackson said he was thrilled about the result and is crediting grassroots voters in the Texas Panhandle and North Texas for helping him secure his victory on Tuesday.
“We have the grassroots who put us here,” Jackson said. “We wouldn’t be here without them.”
Jackson received messages of congratulations from elected officials and organizations across Texas after winning last night. The Jackson campaign also confirmed via social media that Jackson received a call from President Donald Trump after being declared the winner. Trump endorsed Jackson in his primary bid.
Winegarner’s campaign has not yet released an official statement on the election results.
Jackson will now move on to the general election in November where he will face Democrat Gus Trujillo and Libertarian Jack B. Westbrook in the general election.
