Amarillo Independent School District Trustees voted on Monday to push back the start of the 2020-2021 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to AISD, the new start for the school year’s instruction will be on September 1, 2020, pushed back from the original date of August 20. According to the AISD website, “the delay is not a direct response to the COVID-19 virus, but rather to the new challenges teachers and campus staff will face as a result of COVID-19.”
The move to push back the beginning of the school year comes as debates have been ongoing across Texas regarding in-class instruction for the upcoming school year and how school districts should respond to health concerns posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
An updated Amarillo ISD calendar is not available at the time of this writing.
