Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation extending the early voting period for the November 2020 general election.
According to Abbott’s Office, the Governor signed a proclamation on Monday, designating Tuesday, October 13, 2020, as the new start of early voting in Texas. The new early voting period will run through October 30, 2020. Election Day is November 3.
In a statement, Abbott said the move will allow Texans to better protect themselves from COVID-19 while casting their ballots.
"By extending the early voting period and expanding the period in which mail-in ballots can be hand-delivered, Texans will have greater flexibility to cast their ballots, while at the same time protecting themselves and others from COVID-19,” Abbott said.
The order also extended the time period for which marked mail ballots may be delivered in-person to the early voting clerk’s office, now allowing the ballots to be delivered any time during the early voting period or while polls are open on Election Day.
