Members of the Amarillo City Council approved a $27 million contract for new smart water meters.
On Tuesday, the City Council approved the contract with Thirkettle Corporation to replace all 70,000 water meters in Amarillo with smart water meters. The contract’s purchase is being funded by a zero-interest loan from the Texas Water Development Board.
According to City officials, the new system will eliminate the need for manual meter readings. All data from the new system will be available online, which allow residents to monitor their daily water usage.
