Tim Reid, a retired agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has announced his candidacy for Texas Senate in District 31.
Reid announced his candidacy on Tuesday, becoming the fourth declared candidate in the race to replace retiring Sen. Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo). According to Reid’s press release, he is a retired agent with the FBI in Amarillo from 1986 until 2005. Reid ultimately retired from the FBI in 2011 and is currently the director of athletics and campus safety at Ascension Academy in Amarillo, where he also teaches geography, crime scene forensics, and geopolitics. Reid was also previously a member of the Canyon ISD Board of Trustees.
With his announcement, Reid has joined a growing field of Republican contenders hoping to replace Seliger in 2022. The other candidates already in the race include Amarillo attorney Jesse Quackenbush, Coahoma ISD Trustee Stormy Bradley, and Midland businessman Kevin Sparks, who has already been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Candidates interested in running for this office can file for a spot on the ballot through Monday, December 13. The primary election day is currently scheduled for March 1, 2022.
