Amarillo railroad conductor Vance Snider has launched a bid for the Place 6 seat on the Canyon Independent School District Board of Trustees.
Snider announced his campaign on Friday for the seat currently held by incumbent Trustee Jenni Winegarner. Snider said in a statement that he is running to bring his experience as a Republican activist to the Board.
“As a fiscal conservative, I have always believed that politics begins at the local level,” Snider said. “I plan to bring conservative values back to local government on the CISD Board of Trustees.”
Snider said his primary focus on the school board will be focusing on keeping taxes low, saying the recent spending spree by government entities from the federal level to the local level must be stopped.
"Given what taxpayers are seeing daily from the far-left in Washington, it is of critical importance that we prevent this irresponsible spending overflow from reaching our own community," Snider said.
Snider previously ran as a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in District 13 last year, receiving over 3,500 votes. After that race, Snider ran the Trump Victory campaign in 105 Texas counties, including in Amarillo and Lubbock.
According to his press release, Snider is currently a senior at West Texas A&M University and lives in southeast Amarillo with his wife, Christy, and two children.
Election Day is May 1.
