Amarillo voters will have plenty of choices when they head to vote in the May 1 municipal election.
At the close of business on Friday, the City of Amarillo announced 16 candidates had signed up to seek seats on the Amarillo City Council, including four contenders for mayor. Two new candidates — Joe West and Richard Herman — filed on Friday, bringing the total candidate count to 16 individuals, which is the largest field of candidates for Amarillo election since 2015.
According to the City of Amarillo, the candidates who filed are as follows:

Election Day will be on May 1. In races where no candidate receives at least 50 percent of the vote, runoffs will be held, likely in June.
