Candidate Comparison: Amarillo City Council, Place 1

We have asked candidates running for various offices to answer questions for our Voter Guide. While full responses are available here, we are offering you an excerpt in “Candidate Comparisons” ahead of the May 1, 2021 general election.

Each response below came directly from the candidate’s questionnaire and is unedited.

Amarillo City Council, Place 1

Jason Tillery

Age: 42 | Occupation: Retired Navy

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?

I spent 20 years in the Navy working to provide my junior Sailors with an equitable playing field. I worked to make sure they had the tools to succeed and were set on the right path. Even if the cause or issue looked to be a losing fight, if it was worth fighting then I fought hard. I will bring that same passion to bring honestly, common sense, and a fighting desire to make this city better for all Amarilloans. I will be an advocate and a voice for what my citizens want, not my own desires. I believe firmly is Service Before Self!

Hobert “Gunny” Brown

Age: 55 | Occupation: Retired USMC

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?

I am the only candidate that will guarantee that each vote that I cast will be a vote for the citizens of Amarillo.

Cole Stanley

Age: 42 | Occupation: Construction

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position in 2020?

I’ll go to work. I’m not afraid to be my own man on the council. To ask the difficult questions of “why”. I will invest my time energy and resources in identifying how these departments and policies can be improved and strengthened. I am the candidate that can put the city officials to work for the citizens rather than having department heads that tell the council what the city needs. I am a leader and I believe that I can lead all of us in the best direction for the future of Amarillo.
