Amarillo Police have announced the results of the 2021 Click It or Ticket campaign in the city.
According to APD, the campaign, which ran from May 24 through June 26, saw 219 seatbelt citations issued, 14 child restraint citations issued, 92 speeding citations, 15 distracted driving citations, and 238 warnings or citations issued for other violations. Grant-funded officers also made six municipal misdemeanor level arrests, two county court charge level arrests, and two felony charge level arrests, serving a total of 21 warrants during the course of the arrests.
Officials say that seatbelt and child restraint enforcement will remain strict in Amarillo, despite the campaign coming to a close, noting that APD currently has a comprehensive traffic grant from the Texas Department of Transportation. This grant funds extra officers to focus on DWI, speeding, seatbelt, and child restraint laws throughout the year.
