Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will announce the next step of his political future at a kick off rally in Austin tonight.

Bush, who has served as Land Commissioner since 2015, is widely expected to launch a campaign against incumbent Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton during the rally. However, Bush has not yet made an indication of which office he will announce his candidacy for during the rally on Wednesday night.

While he is a relatively new Texas politician, Bush comes from one of the most well-known political families in the state. Bush is the nephew of former Texas Governor and 43rd U.S. President George W. Bush, and the grandson of former Texas Senator and 41st U.S. President George H.W. Bush.

If Bush joins the race against Paxton, he will be the first Republican officially in the contest and will clear the way for an open seat race for Land Commissioner. Thus far, Weston Martinez is the only announced Republican candidate for Bush’s seat.
