Coahoma Independent School District Trustee Stormy Bradley has launched a bid for State Senate in Texas’ 31st District.

Bradley, a Republican businesswoman who owns a steel manufacturing business in Big Spring, launched her bid for State Senate through the release of a campaign commercial on Thursday. In the commercial, Bradley highlighted her background and experience that she feels qualifies her for the position. The commercial was accompanied by a press release, in which Bradley pointed out some of the issues she plans to tackle on the campaign trail.

“As a business owner, a mom, and a sixth-generation Texan, I believe we need a strong voice in Austin to stand with our energy industry, support small business, defend our gun rights, and protect the unborn,” Bradley said. “I’ve been tested, I’m trusted, I’m tough, and I want to fight for our Texas values.”

Bradley is set to run for the State Senate seat currently held by State Sen. Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo), unless her area is removed from the district during redistricting later this year. Seliger has not yet stated whether he will seek re-election.

In the last contest Republican primary for State Senate in District 31, Seliger narrowly fended off a primary challenge from Mike Canon, a former Midland Mayor, and Victor Leal, a former Muleshoe Mayor. Seliger went on to win the general election by a double-digit margin over Libertarian retiree Jack B. Westbrook.

Candidates have until December to file for the seat. The primary election will likely be held in the late spring or early summer next year.
