Incumbent Precinct 2 Potter County Commissioner Robert Ruiz outraised his Republican challenger in the most recent campaign finance reporting cycle.
According to finance reports filed with Potter County, Ruiz, a Democrat who is seeking his first full term on the county commission after being appointed by County Judge Nancy Tanner, raised $4,500 in his re-election bid from July 1 through September 29. Ruiz’s top contribution was a $2,000 donation from Ricky Cantu.
Meanwhile, Ruiz’s Republican opponent, Blair Schaffer, reported $4,170 in contributions, with his top contributions coming from John King and Craig Gualtiere, each in the amount of $1,000. Aside from cash contributions, Schaffer also reported $1,630 in in-kind contributions, including a $1,000 mail piece from the Amarillo Professional Firefighters Local 542 PAC.
Ruiz and Schaffer reported $4,701 and $13 in remaining cash-on-hand, respectively. Schaffer also reported an outstanding loan balance of $800.
Schaffer is the first Republican to run for this seat since Joe Ruiz unsuccessfully challenged Manny Perez for the Precinct 2 commissioner job in 2006.
Voters will decide this race on November 8.
