One local Republican elected official recently contributed to a Democrat candidate’s campaign to oust another incumbent Republican official.

According to finance reports filed this week with Potter County, District Attorney Randall Sims donated $100 to the campaign of Democratic justice of the peace candidate David Deleon. Sims’ contribution to Deleon comes as Deleon is seeking to oust incumbent Republican Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor in Potter County’s precinct two.

Sims has been the District Attorney in Potter County for several years and was most recently re-elected unopposed in 2020. He will be up for re-election in 2024.

As of the finance reporting period that ended on September 29, Deleon reported $725 in monetary contributions, $63.30 in in-kind contributions, and $828.42 in expenditures from personal funds. Meanwhile, Taylor reported $900 in monetary contributions, $633.26 in in-kind contributions, and over $394 in expenditures from personal funds.

Voters will decide the race between Taylor and Deleon on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
