Potter County Website Restored

Provided

Earlier today, the website for Potter County was restored following an outage which began yesterday. The county’s website appears to be fully functional with the exception of their public contact email, which has prevented The Amarillo Pioneer from being able to reach the county for comment on the story.

As we noted in our story about the outage, this is not the first major technical problem the county has faced recently. In 2019, the county was the victim of a ransomware attack that took many months to recover, with many then scrutinizing the county’s response. Last month, Potter County Judge Nancy Tanner announced her personal Facebook account had been hacked.

Several hours after the website was restored, the agenda and video from the Commissioners’ Court meeting held on Monday morning was made available. Neither the agenda nor video were available between the meeting taking place and the website going out.

Among other items on the agenda was enrollment in an annual cyber security training course. Judge Nancy Tanner bemoaned the training, saying that “it’s really not fun.” It was later that same day that the website went down.
