For Lubbock County voters, four candidates are on the ballot in the March Republican primary election to replace retiring State Rep. John Frullo: attorney David Glasheen, retiree Cheryl Little, former Lubbock County Republican Party chairman Carl Tepper, and business owner Kade Wilcox.
After a little over a decade in office, Frullo is retiring, meaning it’s not a question of whether Lubbock residents will see a change in their representation, but rather who their representative will be for the next four years. To this point in the election cycle, two candidates seem to be ahead of the pack, with Glasheen and Tepper picking up most of the interest, endorsements, and funding in this race. And of these two candidates, our publisher’s committee feels Tepper is the right choice for West Texans at this time.
Carl Tepper has a track record of conservative leadership with his service as the former chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party. Tepper also has a track record of service as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a reputation as a successful business leader, working as a commercial real estate professional in Lubbock.
Additionally, Tepper has the backing of many of the key figures who recently led the successful push to designate Lubbock as a Sanctuary City for the Unborn, making the Hub City the nation’s largest city to receive such a designation.
If this is not enough for Lubbock voters, it is on the issue of fiscal responsibility where Tepper shines and sets himself apart from the rest of the field. In an interview with the Amarillo Pioneer, Tepper made clear his strong opposition to taxpayer-funded lobbying and his belief that cities and counties should be much more judicious about using certificates of obligation to fund certain projects, passing on skyrocketing tax bills to their constitutents.
Tepper’s understanding of the fiscal issues affecting Texans shows he has the potential to be a strong ally of Texas taxpayers in Austin and will work to keep taxes as low as possible for taxpayers across our state. And this issue sets him apart as a voice that West Texans need working for them at our state’s capitol.
We recommend Carl Tepper for Texas House District 84 in the March Republican primary election.
Early voting runs February 14-25. Election Day is March 1.
