Four candidates are seeking the Republican nomination to replace retiring Randall County Commissioner Mark C. Benton this March. Eric Barry, Daniel Martinez, Ed Schroder, and Terry Wright are all seeking the Republican nomination to represent the precinct which covers much of Southwest Amarillo on the Randall County Commission for the next four years.

All four candidates bring interesting qualifications to the table and come from different walks of life. In this race, voters have several candidates with business experience, two candidates with experience in insurance sales, one candidate with experience as a bank officer, and another candidate with experience as a certified financial planner. There is even one candidate who has experience as a professional stage performer.

On qualifications alone, this is one race where all four candidates seem to have resumes suggesting they can do the job at the Randall County Commissioners’ Court. However, when it comes to the experience factor of turning campaign promises into reality, there is only one candidate who has the experience that sets him apart from the rest of the field.

Daniel Martinez has experience as an Amarillo City Commissioner and as the former chairman of the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Board. As a city commissioner, Martinez was instrumental in providing a taxpayer-centered, reasonable voice on the city commission. During his term on the city commission, Martinez proved himself to be an independent thinker and an individual unafraid of challenging the status quo.

Since leaving elected life, Martinez has continued to serve and give back to the Amarillo community, as a member of multiple non-profit and organizational boards of directors. Voters might also take note that Martinez was an early backer of Ronny Jackson’s 2020 congressional bid and even appeared in an endorsement video for the now-congressman during his first campaign.

In a field of four worthy contenders, Martinez not only has a track record of conservative advocacy, but also of delivering results for his constituents. This experience sets him apart in the race for Randall County Commissioner, Precinct 2.

We recommend Daniel Martinez for Randall County Commissioner, Precinct 2 in the March Republican primary election.

Early voting runs February 14-25. Election Day is March 1.
