Provided

Amarillo Police officers wrote 23 citations for minors possessing alcohol during a recent campaign to crack down on underage drinking.

According to APD, during the week of spring break, the department assigned officers to extra duty to work on the underage drinking project due to the increased likelihood of parties and other alcohol related events involving minors. During the campaign, 23 citations were written for minors possessing alcohol, while four citations were written for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Officers also conducted bar checks during the campaign and over 250 checks on schools and other areas.

During the campaign, APD reports that officers also identified a liquor store that sold alcohol to minors on multiple occasions. Reports on this issue have been turned over to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for administrative action, authorities say.
