City of Canyon to Consider Early Purchase of Police & Waste Vehicles

Provided

The City of Canyon’s City Commission is set to consider proposals for early purchases of a solid waste truck and three police vehicles during their regular meeting next Monday.

According to the meeting’s agenda, Canyon’s Public Works Director Dan Reese is requesting approval for an early purchase of an approximately $270,000 solid waste truck. According to Reese, the city is currently scheduled for a truck replacement in fiscal year 2024. However, Reese cites both supply chain issues and higher than anticipated maintenance costs for existing vehicles. The proposal would also be for an upsized class truck, though Reese hopes the increased cost can be offset by reduced maintenance costs.

Canyon’s Chief of Police Joe Price, meanwhile, is requesting three 2023 police interceptors ahead of approval of the fiscal year 2023 budget. According to Price, Canyon’s Police Department ordered three patrol cars as a part of the 2022 budget. However, citing shortages, Price claims that the vehicles were not delivered and “the department does not know if or when those vehicles will arrive.” An estimated price tag of up to $185,000 is given for the three vehicles.

The meeting will take place Monday, June 6th, at 4:30 pm at Canyon City Hall. The meeting will be broadcast on YouTube. To download the full agenda PDF, click here.
