City Seeking Comments on Transit Changes

The City of Amarillo is seeking comments regarding proposals to change the Route 41 and Route 42 city bus routes. According to the city, Amarillo City Transit will be holding meetings on January 5th, January 10th, and January 11th where public comments will be heard. Amarillo City Transit Planner Julia Miller will also be taking comments via email at julia.miller@amarillo.gov or by phone at 806-378-6923.

The times and places for the meetings are as follows:

  • Jan. 5 (Thursday), 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., North Branch Public Library, 1500 N.E. 24th Ave.

  • Jan. 10, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Downtown Public Library, 413 S.E. 4th Ave.

  • Jan. 11, 3:30 pm to 6:30 p.m., Downtown Public Library, 413 S.E. 4th Ave.

According to the city, one of the proposals would be to combine the two routes, hoping the change would “improve frequency of service.” Both routes currently start at the Downtown Main Bus Stop and make their way west via Southwest 15th then south via South Washington. Route 41 continues south on Washington before heading west on Soutwest 46th, then south on Georgia, then east on Soutwest 58th, then north on Washington to return to the Downtown Main Bus Stop. Route 42, on the other hand, gets on Interstate 27 Southbound, heading southwest to Western before turning around and heading back to the Downtown Main Bus Stop. A map of the two routs is included at the end of this article.

Changes are not expected until January 23rd at the earliest. Public comments will be accepted through that date.
