Another former candidate for the Amarillo City Council has launched a bid for a seat on the Potter County Commission.

Misty Vigil, an Amarillo activist and AISD employee, announced on social media on Wednesday night that she will be a candidate for Potter County Commissioner in Precinct 1 next year. Vigil, who previously ran for Amarillo City Council Place 2 in the May 2023 municipal election, is the fourth candidate to declare for the seat this year.

Vigil joins incumbent H.R. Kelly, antique store owner Chip Hunt, and educator David Martinez in the race for County Commissioner in Precinct 1. The precinct covers most of the southwestern part of Potter County, including the Wolflin, Bivins, and Plemons Eakle neighborhoods, as well as portions of the San Jacinto, Belmar, and Puckett West neighborhoods.

Ballot filing begins for this office in November. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
