Amarillo businesswoman Chip Hunt is running for Potter County Commissioner in Precinct 1.
Hunt, the owner of the 6th Street Antique Mall, announced her candidacy for Potter County Commissioner last month. At Thursday night’s Conservative Patriots 4 Texas meeting, Hunt outlined the reasons she is running for office, including her support for term limits on county commissioners and putting checks and balances on the county’s spending practices.
Already a familiar name to Amarillo voters, Hunt ran for Amarillo City Council Place 1 in the city’s general election in May, missing the runoff. That seat was ultimately won by firefighter Josh Craft. However, Hunt’s campaign did shift the focus of the race toward the issue of crime, as Hunt discussed her experience as a victim of violent crime and advocated for fully funding law enforcement and providing additional training and equipment to combat crime.
Hunt is running for the seat currently held by Potter County Commissioner H.R. Kelly, who is seeking re-election. Educator David Martinez is also running for the seat.
The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
