Lubbock City Council to Consider Settlement Agreement

Lubbock City Council is set to consider a settlement agreement with Albert Rodriguez during their upcoming December 12th regular meeting. The settlement agreement stems from a September 2022 crash involving Rodriguez and a Lubbock police officer in which Rodriguez’s vehicle was overturned.

If approved, the city would pay Rodriguez $63,000. According to a copy of the settlement agreement provided by the city, Rodriguez has already signed the agreement.

Before the open session, the council will discuss the settlement agreement in an executive session. In addition to the settlement agreement, the council is also set to discuss “the appointment, employment, evaluation or reassignment” of Lubbock City Attorney Chad Weaver, though the agenda does not note any connection between the two items. (Unlike the Amarillo City Charter, the Lubbock City Charter gives the Lubbock City Council power to appoint or remove the City Attorney.)

The open session portion of the meeting is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm, while the executive session is scheduled for 1:00 pm. The meeting will take place in the Council Chamber of Citizens Tower. The agenda is available at this link.
