We have asked candidates running for various offices to answer questions for our Voter Guide. While full responses are available here, we are offering you an excerpt in “Candidate Comparisons” ahead of the May 6 general election.
Each response below came directly from the candidate’s questionnaire and is unedited.
Katt Massey
Age: 39 | Occupation: Account Executive
Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?
I followed my calling to start shining a light on the things the city must improve on as a citizen who worked for the city. Through my experience there, I saw potential in many areas, some of which have formed my platform. To solve the issues our city faces, we need leadership who will step up and get back to basics. I will do this with a younger and fresh perspective as someone who supports our city and wants to make sure we're going forward, not backward.
I will ensure we continue to be a city where people want to live, and businesses want to grow. To achieve this, I will focus on the following: Increasing transparency and communication, fiscal responsibility, public safety and first responder support, and cleaning up our city.
John Adair
Age: 47 | Occupation: Retired
Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?
Because I am a regular tax paying citizen that has experienced the same problems as everyone else and I want it to be my goal to leave Amarillo better than I found it!
Tom Scherlen
Age: 70 | Occupation: Retired CEO of Austin Hose
Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?
I am a true believer in the conservative values I grew up with. I also believe I can represent the working men and women of Amarillo. I started at the bottom and worked my way to the top. I have lived the American dream.
