We have asked candidates running for various offices to answer questions for our Voter Guide. While full responses are available here, we are offering you an excerpt in “Candidate Comparisons” ahead of the May 6 general election.

Each response below came directly from the candidate’s questionnaire and is unedited.

Don Tipps

Age: 52 | Occupation: State Farm Insurance Agent

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?

I am a lifetime resident of Amarillo with pride in our city. I have a vested interest in our great city. I have businesses here and my children and grandchildren live here. I have run a successful business in Amarillo for 22 years. I have maintained a team of employees, worked within a budget, made payroll and grown my business. This is what being on the city council is. The voters are actually electing a 5 member board of directors to oversee and make decisions for this $500 million business called Amarillo. I want to see Amarillo grow and prosper in a fiscally responsible way. Parts of our infrastructure are crumbling and need repair/updating. I am capable of making those difficult decisions without outside influence. I am about small government and a free market. I firmly believe this is how a successful community becomes strong.

Misty Vigil
