Update 4/2/2023 5:57 pm

The Amarillo Senior Citizens Association has announced they “have to rescind [the endorsement] due to IRS regulations” as they are a 501c organization and thus prohibited from making “an endorsement of any kind.”

Original story:

City Councilman Cole Stanley picked up the endorsement of one of Amarillo’s most influential senior citizens advocacy organizations this week.

Stanley, who is currently running for mayor, picked up the endorsement of the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association on Saturday. Stanley posted a photo of a letter from the organization on social media this week and thanked the organization for their support.

“It has been an honor to work hand in hand with all of you as we continue to move forward to establish your new home,” Stanley wrote. “I'm honored to be your candidate and if elected will work tirelessly for all of you.”

Stanley is facing City Councilwoman Freda Powell, former Elkhart City Councilman Don Collins, life coach Jeff McGunegle, and truck drivers Sam Burnett and Tonya “Lady Butterscotch” Winston in the upcoming May 6 election. The winner of this election will replace retiring incumbent Ginger Nelson.
